    Wink [;)] Thomson Airways safety video superb

    I was on a Thomson flight last week, and the announcement came we are now going to do the safety feature...yeah we all know how boring these can be, but I do always pay attention....well the IFE screens dropped down and on came the video....well what a breath of fresh air...this certainly captured the passengers attention, I have never seen so many people glued to a safety video and smiling and laughing...well done Thomson (TUI) you have certainly got this one right

    Take a look and Alice & Co and see what you think

    Professionals not always best specially on a holiday charter flight, you need something to catch peoples attention, specially children...I thought Thomson have got it spot on.....like I said the video had everyone watching which is very rare these days

    as a former Flight Attendant, I loved the video.  It explains everything, and mostly important it gets the passengers attention.  Well done.

    Alice, gets our vote for tuning into the style of passenger Thompson fly around. A brave decision on the part of Thompson to approve it & also to run it, one that should be applauded by the flying public & industry alike.

    Alice's, diction is also a vast improvement on many more elderly flight attendants.

    There is a glaring error in this video. During the initial seat belt demo the passenger is shown fastening the seat belt not only around herself but her teddy bear(her child) as well. Two individuals should never be shown restrained by one seatbelt as the larger individual would squash the smaller one in an emer. situation! Psgr. with child may get the impression that it`s appropriate to secure child on her(his) lap with same seatbelt....not good; recommend this be fixed..fast! Other than that video is quite well done!

     At :23 in the video, we see an orange seat belt held up which seems to be the type with a loop for fastening a secondary seat belt for lap kid. My understanding is that airlines vary on the use of these, with some prohibiting and some providing. Although it should have been made clear that such secondary belt was being used, is it not a bit gray since they did display this type of primary seat belt in the beginning?

    Exactly right Scott i spoke to a friend thats on cabin crew and she took a look at the video and it does not break an rules at all...in fact it was the first time she had seen this, and said she wished she had this on her airline as very few people take any notice of the safety procedure...and said well done Thomson and Alice & Co

    Re: Thomson Airways safety video superb..background info

    find below some background information:
    • Many current onboard safety videos are viewed by passengers as mundane, old, tired and boring. Research conducted by the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) in 2006 found that 54% of passengers did not watch the in-flight safety video in its entirety. We wanted to change this.
    • All the kids are normal school kids. The Director - Karen Cunningham - screen tested over 900 children in a week for the 12 roles as “Thomson Airways little stars”;
    • The video was filmed at Doncaster airport on a training cabin. It featured 12 children and took three days to film;
    • Thomson conducted research into the new safety video on-board its flights and found that there was a:

    ·15% increase in the number of customers who paid full attention to the video

    ·66% increase in the number of customers who felt that the new film made them feel more safe·33% growth in the number of customers who engaged with the video; and·91% increase in the number of children under the age of 12 who watched the entire video until the end.

    Separately, the video has been shortlisted as a finalist in the forthcoming World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) awards for Best Single Achievement in in-flight entertainment. The winner of this award will be announced on the 5 October 2009 at the WAEA Conference in Palm Spring, California.

    Showed this to the family, think i am now on my 6th play of the video, kids love it. We fly Thomson in October so look forward to seeing this again, although the kids will have to make do with just the one screening. Great info on how it was put together. Well done Thomson great job. Would also like to thank Goose, great catch and thanks for sharing this with us.

    Well here goes, my first post!   I was involved in the making of the video and it is great to receive all of the varied comments - good and bad.  I have to respond to the above.  The scene which is illustrated shows the teddybear acting as an infant and therefore is restrained by the infant lap belt, the adult/passenger seatbelt can be seen fastened on the right of the little girl - I hope that helps with any misunderstanding Big Smile.

    I think it' s pathetic that now you have to use children to market your airline - nothing against the children, but it's pretty bad when you have to stoop this low in order to get people to pay for airfare thru you!

    Re: Thomson Airways safety video superb

    Everyone’s entitled to opinions, and everyone’s entitled to fly what airline they wish, and if you witnessed the amount of people on the flight that were glued to the screen the whole length of the safety video, then I think Thomson have done a great job all round

    Kids are used in adverts all the time for anything from chocolate to cars to fishfingers, I don't really get why this one is any different. Also, since it's the inflight safety video you should only be seeing it on the flight after you've already bought your ticket and got on the aircraft - advertising in retrospect?

    Excellent idea to get more attention from the usual ''ah...I have seen it all"

    As an Air Traffic Controller I never fail to pay attention everytime safety demos are given.

    Thanks for the eye catching demo..will pass it to local aviation forums.

    My compliments to the production crew and Thomson Airways.

    I've watched the video a couple of times and whilst it is cute and innovative, I don't think it meets legal requirements. The video fails to mention the airlines smoking policy, which I understand is a requirement under EU OPS. Of course, this issue goes away if there is a PA announcement made on this subject as part of the pre take-off crew announcements.

    Maybe someone from Thomson can confirm that crew do indeed announce the airlines smoking policy in addition to the safety video.

    I was on the flight and can confirm there was a "NO SMOKING" announcement made, hence it's not in the video, so Thomson are breaking no rules...Good on ya Alice!!

     Thomson are not using the children to to market the airline  - the passengers have already bought their tickets, having already been marketed, their prime reason for using children was to try and get more people to sit up and take notice, which , I think, they brilliantly did!Big Smile
