Rolls Royce Avon jet engine;  still in full production after more than 60 years

Absolutely one of the really great second-generation (or is it third?) turbojets,but I am most  surpsed to read that it is still in production. Was wondering if you could recheck that and perhaps quote a reference? I am being rather lazy as Isuppose I could do it.

There have been so many really good powerplants so I am interested in why the Avon is top of your personal ranking?

Dakota67, The Avon is still in production but by Rolls-Royce Energy rather than flight-worthy examples.

Rolls say "The industrial Avon has recently established a 50 million-hour world record in its class of 10 to 20MW aero-derivative gas generators. Over 1,200 industrial Avons have been sold and the engine is the industry benchmark for reliability and availability."

Oh..of course..thanks. Brain only focused on aeroplanes. In fact, I dimly recall that the Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, city power station used the Avon core in a bank of four units. I also recall that one of them failed rather expensively due being allowed to run out of oil!!!! Are there also Avons in some military ships..like destroyers?? Perhaps i am thinking of the Olympus.....

I'm thinking more Olympus, Proteus and Spey for marine applications rather than Avon, but I can't be sure that an Avon has never been used over water.
