FARNBOROUGH 2008: Scot deal drives Chemring into US market

Chemring Group last month completed a $40 million acquisition of Scot, a manufacturer of cartridge-actuated and propellant-actuated devices (CAD/PADs) used in military and civil aircraft emergency systems, space launch platforms and missiles. The company expects this latest move will secure a leadership position in the US energetics devices market.

“The addition of Scot enables Chemring to replicate the energetics capability of Chemring Energetics UK in Chemring North America to serve the world’s largest defence market,” says Dan McKenrick, president, Chemring North America.

Scot brings several advantages to Chemring including strong relationships with the USAF, US Navy and major prime contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Raytheon. These connections will enable Chemring to introduce its line of CAD/PAD products to the US market.

Scot also provides Chemring with a US-based center-of-excellence in design, development, qualification and manufacture of pyrotechnic devices and sub-systems.

The acquisition also empowers Scot. With access to Chemring North America’s high-volume manufacturing and automation facilities, provided by South Dakota-based TekOrd, Scot will be able to increase responsiveness to new customer requirements.
