FARNBOROUGH 2008: Doncasters bucks the trend with UK plant upgrades

UK-based, Dubai-owned engineering group Doncasters is investing in the future, first major investments in tow of its facilities.

A £16 million ($32m) expansion of its Blaenavon plant in south Wales will enable Doncasters to undertake post-cast processing work that was previously sub-contracted to a specialist supplier. The move will create 125 new skilled jobs.

And a £175,000 ($350,000) investment at Doncasters Airmotive and Doncasters Aerospace Components in Shrewsbury, central England will install a new plasma spray facility. Plasma spray technology is used to spray coatings on to hot-end components, such as combusters, extending the life of the component in service. The investment uses about 90% of the site’s current plasma spray facility, which is being upgraded or replaced.

“While the credit crunch, rising prices and environmental concerns are undoubtedly a concern, at Doncasters we are ready to fly!” says group CEO Eric Lewis.
