FARNBOROUGH 2008: Look but don’t touch!

Trac allows engine manufacturers to look but not touch, with a new optical sensing system for turbine blade measurement debuting at Farnborough this week.

“Engine makers cannot afford to touch turbine blades when measuring,” says Michael Parry, managing director, Trac Measurement Systems. “Contact can distort the part.”

Solving this problem, Trac’s new system offers no-contact measurement, eliminating the need for traditional manual measurement and damaging blade contact.

“The system is also faster than conventional methods, lower cost, more flexible, and allows for a quick changeover to different type or size blades so you don’t lose time on production,” Parry adds.

The system prototype is on display at the company stand and Trac has already received first orders from Rolls-Royce and Snecma.
