L-3 Wescam finds right image

L-3 Wescam has won a $25 million contract from Canada Public Works and Government Services agency to provide high-definition imaging systems for Bell CH-146 Griffon helicopter’ IGRESS reconnaissance escort surveillance system. It has also won a $34m contract from the USAF Research Laboratory for its MX series EO/IR imaging turrets for use on threat detection and counter-insurgency missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.


Gee Wizz, what a deal!

IAE has inked a $1.6 billion deal with Wizz Air, central Europe’s largest low-cost airline, to supply and support V2500 engines for its 50 new Airbus A320s. The deal makes Wizz IAE’s biggest European customer. The airline operates 18 IAE-powered aircraft and has a further outstanding order for 23 A320s. Lessor CIT Aerospace has also chosen V2500 engines for 15 new A320-family aircraft in a $250m deal that will bring CIT’s V2500-powered fleet to 88.


Lightweight tiles for Gulfstream power

GE Aviation is to supply the secondary power distribution and auxiliary power unit (APU) door actuation system for the new Gulfstream G650 business jet. The deal could exceed $100 million over the programme life. The distribution system will use GE’s new modular power tile technology, offering packaging and wiring options that minimise installation weight and volume.


Raytheon role in Asian sat-nav system

Raytheon is to lead a team to deliver systems for the Indian Space Research Organisation and Airports Authority of India’s global navigation satellite system. This will complete the final phase of the GPS-aided geosynchronous augmented navigation system, (GAGAN), which will provide satellite-based navigation for civil aviation across South and East Asia.


Cobham for L-3 service, cobber

Cobham Aviation Australia, which will now become the authorised server centre for L-3 Wescam’s MX series of electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) imaging turrets. L-3 Wescam is also adding additional service and support capabilities to its UK defence support group.
