OSHKOSH 2008: Challenge aims to “catch them young”

A real-world design challenge created by Cessna engineers and Build A Plane – a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting aviation and aerospace careers – could pull students towards engineering and science.

“This is an unprecedented opportunity for students to have access to some of the best minds in the country,” says Build A Plane’s Lyn Freeman. The US Department of Energy is a main sponsor and the final competition is at the National Academy of Engineering in Washington, DC.

The competition starts at state and local levels, using CAD software to create aircraft designs with better performance and increased efficiency. Teachers who participate will attend a two-day training course to use PTC’s Pro/Engineer CAD software.
