Safety and Reliability Engineer

For the Production of Reliability and Safety case support of missile projects

Generation of Safety and reliability programme plans and agreement of such programmes with the project and the customer, commensurate with the requirements of DEF-STAN 00-56 and the DEF STAN 00-40 series of standards. Responsible for the generation promotion and realization of the safety strategy on a given project.

Conduct a series of system and sub-system safety activities in support of this plan during all lifecycle phases including, but not limited to:

Hazard Identification exercises (SWIFT and HAZOP)
Hazard management and risk analysis, including Fault Tree and event tree analysis
Construction of safety arguments and ALARP statements
Provide support to internal and external project Safety and Reliability Panels and Committees
With the safety and reliability focal points, assist in the management and integration of these activities with system engineering and design programs to ensure the timely delivery of material supporting the safety case.
Liaison with other functions in order to derive safety requirements and hazards.

Specific responsibilities of this role include:
Working with systems team in order to demonstrate satisfaction of safety requirements

Ability to construct a safety or reliability argument that is acceptable to the end customer, project Chief Engineer and the Independent Guided Weapon Safety Officer
Ability to deliver supporting information (safety case reports, hazard analysis, Functional Failure Analysis) that are timely and acceptable to the above stakeholder community.
Adapts behavior and approach to changing circumstances
Delivery of innovative design solutions utilizing the breadth and depth of HF Engineering techniques
Bid preparation is appropriately scoped in terms of complexity and level of effort to fit the nature of the proposal
Successful completion of work packages to time and on budget with agreed parameters and objectives
A consistent level of positive and constructive feedback from both customers and colleagues

The successful candidate will require:
Demonstrable knowledge of the application of UK and international safety and reliability assessment processes
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-national team
Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to adapt message content depending on audience or stakeholder set
Ability to discern the key technical, commercial, and programme influences from available 'noisy' information
Ability to make, and communicate cost, schedule adherence, and technical performance trade-offs
Systems thinker and systems engineering experience

Effective programme delivery despite working on multiple programmes simultaneously
Maintaining technical excellence whilst under time and cost pressure
Balancing own work load delivery with need to improve own and others technical skills

Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
