Ryanair returns to Fuerteventura
Ryanair has announced that it is to reinstate services to Fuerteventura from March 2010 and will continue to operate its services to Tenerife and Gran Canaria after the local government extended its airport discount scheme. In mid November 2009, Ryanair threatened to pull its services from Fuerteventura unless AEI the local tourism promotion group honoured its part of an agreement that it had signed with the carrier to "promote the island". The threat was carried out when Ryanair ceased operations to Fuerteventura on January 31 last.
From March next a total of ten routes will operate to / from Fuerteventura which Ryanair expect will carry 300,000 passengers per year. The routes are : Bournemouth, Charleroi, Dublin, Weeze, Hahn, Prestwick, Liverpool, Madrid, Bergamo and Pisa. The local government airport discount shceme at the Canary islands has been extended until at least March 2012.
