Weston Airport (EIWT) played host to a rather unusual visitor last week. On Tuesday June 15, Auster G-AKWS (msn 1237) arrived from Shobdon Airfield in Herefordshire. Built in 1944 the aircraft differs from the majority of Austers in that it is fitted with a Lycoming O-320 160HP engine with a Sensenich M74DM metal propeller.

Painted in a two tone camo scheme the aircraft carries its former military serial RT610 and is believed to be the first visit to Ireland of an Auster in a camo scheme. Back in the late 1960’s Peasrse Cahill’s Auster J/1 Autocrat carried a false RAF scheme for its role in a film which was made here. Thanks to Joe McDermott for the background and picture of G-AKWS’ visit to Weston.
