The IAA has published its traffic figures for the month of April. As expected the effects of volcanic ash combined with the continuing recessionary market had a severe impact on the IAA’s figures for the month. The full effects of the economic downturn have left their mark on the Irish Aviation Authority’s year end results for 2009. The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) announced this evening that in conjunction with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Irish and UK airspace would reopen on a phased basis. Irish airspace shut down due to volcanic dust

The last time that the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted in Iceland the spectacle lasted for over a year from December 1821 to January 1823. For almost 200 years it lay dormant until March 20 2001 when it erupted, throwing volcanic ash into the atmosphere. The Irish Aviation Authority today issued its monthly traffic report for March 2010. For the first month in quite some time the total monthly overflight figure showed a YoY increase with the March 2010 figure growing 5.1%. North Atlantic communications however were down 1% YoY.
