New configuration of the terminal at Fiumicino airport, by
the October 30 2009 serviceable the terminal dedicated to Alitalia and SkyTeam
partners.
Rome, July 15 2009 - Fabrizio Palenzona, Aeroporti di Roma
Chairman, and Rocco Sabelli, Alitalia chief executive officer, signed
today the agreement for a new configuration of the terminal at Rome
Fiumicino airport and a series of structural improvement in operations
on the port of call.
The partnership between the largest airline in the country and the
most important Italian gateway born by the need of Alitalia to "implement
a growth trend" consistent with its role as a key carrier in Rome Fiumicino airport.
The agreement includes a number of important organizational steps
in improving the quality of services. One of the most important is by
October 30 2009 to dedicate a new terminal (today Terminal A)
as "a unique service needs for Alitalia and Sky Team alliance partners
"
The dedicated terminal will allow ADR to reconfigure and
specialize both the existing terminal, including those under
construction (the new Pier C) and those in design (the new Terminal A
in the east area). The commitment - in the long term - is to put at
the service needs of the company's first three piers of the East End
and the infrastructure of embarkation.
With regard to passenger services, the agreement provides for some
important innovations. ADRs will supply a new BHS (baggage handling
system) that will accompany those already working. This
will allow to make easier the management of baggages both originating
and
in transit. With regard to the luggage will be implemented the new
technology
systems to track, as the system with RFID microchips that follows
baggage until inside the bulk through a system of aerials wi-fi
technology connected.
As for the coordination of airport operations, it will use the
so-called Collaborative Decision Making, which is an integrated
coordination among all the operators and the companies operating at
Fiumicino. Finally, the agreement commits the parties to reduce the
so-called Minimum connecting time, ie the time of transit of passengers
and luggage between flights and the other.
Finally, the agreement provides for the identification of
infrastructure to meet the logistical needs of the offices of Alitalia
that will find place in the perimeter of the airport.
