New chairman for Lufthansa Italia. Michael Kraus as from April 1 2011 is is appointed as head of full Italian business that enclose also Lufthansa Italia and Air Dolomiti. Michael Kraus currently leads Air Dolomiti from a lot of years. The today managing director Heike Birlenbach is moved as head of Lufthansa’s Munich-based cabin crew.
Alitalia has established with PayPal an agreement in order to allow to pay tickets selled on www.alitalia.com . In
2010 on Alitalia.com more than 3,2 million ticket has been bought (+15%).

At one months to the take off Air Corsica/CCM will not commence any flights on proposed route Marseille-Florence planned twice a week due to lack of demand. In the opposite side the route to Venice is increased to 4xweek.

Wind Jet and XL France continue the partnership along summer 2011. As from April 8 the carriers will play on the market with a large offer of links between Sicily and France. These flights are operated with Airbus A320s or Boeing 737-800s. The routes planned together by the carriers are: Catania to Paris with four weekly services on monday, wednesday, friday and saturday. In July and August an additional flight is operated fridays. Catania will be linked with Nantes and Lyon on fridays. Palermo will have flights to Paris on mondays/fridays/saturdays. In July and August is planned an additional frequency on fridays.
From today, Air Italy is the only Italian airline with defibrillators installed on all aircraft and cabin crew trained for emergency measures in case of cardiac arrest in flight. "Sudden cardiac arrest is a major cause of death in industrialized countries, " said in a statement Giuseppe Gentile, president and CEO the carrier. "After 4-6 minutes from cardiac arrest the brain suffers irreversible damage. The only scientifically proven and effective strategy to deal with this situation is early defibrillation associated with cardiopulmonary resuscitation. "The training of flight attendants" First responders, "says the carrier implements the suggestions national legislation and international (ICAO and JAR) : immediate intervention increases survival of passengers suffering from sudden cardiac arrest by up to 90% of cases.
In these days Lufthansa Italia has obtained from Italian civil avaition authorities the AOC thta clears the airline to fly to the market currently protected by exclusive traffic rights between Italy and foreign countries not in open skies policy.
Lufthansa Italia currently is on the way also to recruit several crews and pilots to assign on planes in operations from Milan Malpensa. Concerning future network expansion they are looking to the North Africa destination, they has freezed any interest about long haul flights from Milan Malpensa due to lack of market request.
Three times a week as from March 28 2011 is the new flight Catania-Bari.
It appears that between 500 an 700 job cuts will affect Meridiana fly during resize planned along 2011. Nine MD82s will be phased out, currently they are 18 in fleet. In the flight operations are planned 270 job cuts, of which 45 Captains, 45 F/O and 180 crews.
Tomorrow Alitalia Group will resume flights to Tunis with two daily flights scheduled at 8.00 and 12.00 in departure from Rome. The return are ar 10.20 and 14.20. Both flights are operated with 200 seater A321/100s aircraft, more greater than usual in order to clear the backlog of passengers unable to fly today.
Alitalia grants to the passenger unable to fly today the full refund or the no cost re-booking until Jan 31 2011.
