New horizons for Meridiana fly
Giuseppe Gentile int hsi days said to the media the first ways for the new Meridiana fly revival. Shortly in the short haul the fleet composed by MD80s will be lowered to only 7 jets wholly based at Olbia. In the long haui the fleet will continue with 4 B767s and 3 A330/200s originally in fleet with Eurofly and currently flying with this livery. In the long haul Meridiana fly and Air Italy will have the major share to Eastern Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) with 12 weekly flights operated in the next winter season 2011/12. Further markets served are the Caribbean (i.e Cuba and Dominican Republic), Southern America, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Giuseppe Gentile new CEO of Meridiana fly confirm the new company capitalization for 231 million € that shortly will be injected. Air Italy and Meridiana fly hopefully will be merged by Sept 15 2011. But in the market rumours speaks about that airlines will continue to operate maintaining the current AOCs.
The gaps that currently penalize Meridiana fly that lose 26 million € in 2011 is the network at the time being not profitable in term of flexibility and crew utilization. Many crews fly less than the economic average. The new airline re-organization will probably benefit the financial figures in the next future.
