Patrouille Suisse meets Patrouille de Glaciers - 24th April 2010
The Patrouille des Glaciers (PdG) is a ski mountaineering race organized every two years by the Swiss Army, competed by military and civil teams.
There are two different races, the normal and the short one:
Zermatt - Verbier - Arolla: 53 kilometers, equivalent to 110 km / effort.
Arolla - Verbier: 27 kilometers, equivalent to 53 km / effort
Each patrol consists of 3 members who, in order to compete, must practice regularly hiking and mountain races, be very good skiers, skiing "roped" and be able to perform the sections from Zermatt to Arolla in 7,5 hours and from Arolla to Verbier in 8,5 hours. More Informations on Wikipedia.
One of the Highlights each time is the famous Patrouille Suisse during the ceremonies at the end of the race. This year with the new leader, Capt Marc 'Zimi' Zimmerli, I've seen the Team for the first time in 2010.

Beautiful Alps and some Fighters - what else do you need ...
