Jetwashed - The latest developments from AirSpace

A change is coming...

Way back in April, i gave you some indication of some changes to expect from AirSpace this year. Well exciting news, those changes are very nearly here.

AirSpace will very shortly be getting a new and shiny update with a sleek enhanced look and new features! Below is a look at what you can expect:

What features can you expect to see from the new AirSpace?

A substantial redesign - The old purple will be a thing of the past as AirSpace gets a much needed make-over. Expect the new design to look more attuned to the rest of Flightglobal while also making use of the width of the screen.
New functionality - All of your favourite elements of AirSpace will still be here (Forums/Blogs/Images) but we will have the addition of Wikis and Groups, allowing you to create a group on any subject matter you wish.
Greater personalisation - The profile function is being expanded and being made more prominent so it follows both personal and general site activity, much like on Facebook
Improved speed/performance - Our aim is to make AirSpace much faster, with for example, a multiple image uploader allowing you to quickly paste many images at once.

Some more pictures of what you can expect:

The images page:

For something new, look at our new Groups area:

The bad news is that for this to happen, AirSpace will be inaccessible for period of two days and i will let you all know when this is due to happen. We are sorry for this small inconvenience but please return to see the new and much improved site in action. If you want to see a live version of a similar installation, take a look at our sister publication Caterersearch

Can we please have a search engine for images, all of the photo sites on the web have this.

Downtime for Airspace...mayeb useful to ticker tape this across the home page a few days before the site goes off line

Fully agree with Goose - AirSpace NEEDS a photo search engine.  The current setup is extremely poor and an utter pain to search through. Relying on users to tag their own photos properly (as is currently the case) is a recipe for disaster.

Having a shiny new front-end is all well and good, but if the technology behind it is still as bad as the old version, what's the point?

Searching for images will be improved from this version and we will look to see how we can improve things further as soon as it is live. Of course, we will highlight on the homepage the likely time for the downtime.

If airspace is ever to make it as a serious enthusiasts web site then it really does need a decent photo search engine. It is without doubt the most important change that should be made. Another issue that needs addressing is a logs section as posting logs at the moment gets lost amongst all the general chit chat entries. As a spotter who is 'out in the field' alot i know from chatting to fellow spotters that a lack of these issues stops them from using airspace. I am sure other enthusiasts on here would agree with me on that.

Hey guys, seen your comments, one of the reasons I do not load pictures here. I think it's a great site and unique from other sites, but it does need a search facility for photos and this would make tagging much easier. And I often search for particular pictures but to be honest I gave up because I had to troll through so much stuff to find what I wanted. I am also a subscriber to Flight, have been for many years, I rarely see any images in the magazine that have come from the forum. Guys at Flight you have a good resource here so why not use it. You may even attract some more photographers from other sites, so until you get the tools, I will continue to post my images elsewhere. Sorry

I trust for this aspect of the new improved AirSpace, it is NOT actually going to look like Caterersearch!

Making use of the width of the screen surely means

text & images not blank spaces.

Don't you get it?

I have just seen the catersearch site. No no no no no please no no no!What is it with all this going white and lots of empty space!Stay with colour! Priorities should be a photo search engine and a seperate movements/logs section if you really want this website to hit off!

Mav, I cant wait to see the fruits of your efforts. I'm sure that the update will bring a much more slick user experience.

I'm sure that you'll continue to be busy improving the site as time goes on.

Well if Airspace ever gets the makeover it needs and it looks like Caterersearch then god help us, I do not think that this is an improvement at all, it looks pretty average compared to other forums out there, I agree too much white space, and it looks cluttered and out dated.

Airspace needs to be slick and modern it's not a business site, so please guys take note of the feedback you are getting from the contributors

And please give us a search engine for photo's

Biggles images are used from Airspace in the magazine as much as they can be (I don't pick them or have any control over them!)

Totally agree about having an image search on the Airspace, it would be so much easier.

Thank you for all your comments (good and bad) and we have taken them on board. Please do not get hung up on the look of the Caterer site as i just wanted to show you an example of a site that was built on the same platform. Ours will look different.

Image search will be a priority for just after the upgrade and with an improved search we can help to get more of your great images into the magazine.

I'm trying to be as honest and open as i can about the plans and will endeavour to continue to do so.

Thanks

Maverick

I hope that the image search does come sooner rather than later. The lack of a search is the main reason i have stopped putting my pictures on. I don't see the point if no one can search for them.
