Smartphones at aviation industry.

How could a smartphone improve the aviation industry.

The whole aviation industry is focused in cost reduce, to perform this task at the comunications they usually use a Nextel for his administrators. But the nextel phones profile were always very poor and with no much resource, Now the motorola announced the new i1, the frist smartphone that carries the PTT technology that uses the iDEN network.

Before, the blackbarry curve were the first choice for this task. Now we have the MOTOROLA i1

 

 

The use of an smartphone can help the administrators, managers and supervisors to a quicker comunication by the corporative e-mail and the PTT capability, using the GPS you can monitor your crew.

Android based (1.5) the phone has a lot of possibilities, 5mp camera, touchscreen, acelerometer, the phone is certified at the military standard 810F about heavy rain, dust, impact, totally sealed the corners are rubberized, the battery case has lockers to keep it sealed. The phone was designed to suport the use in a industrie.

I`m fully pleased with my new Motorola i1.

There is one thing that could be silly but works for me, the geo-tagging. when I take a picture the geo-tagging shows interact with the GPS and show me where I took it.
I usually take a lot of pictures in many cities, Component, structural repairs and this feature helps me to manage this photos.

LATAM Ailines - What we think about it.

Hello everyone.

Yesterday we had the biggest notice about our airline sector, the biggest brazilian airline TAM Airlines and the chile-based LAN announce an agreement to merge.

The merge will create the biggest south america airline, the richest airline in the world.

The LATAM airline will operate more than 220 airplanes and I`m sure that it scaries every other airline at the Brazil`s scenary.

I wonder if the VRG Airlines (GOL) CEO - Constantino Junior are pissed off.

I think that for the industry workers it is a very good new, more oportunities here and out of here, oportunities for the aeronautical industry.

"Fatal Distractions" - Aviation accidents

There is an article at the july 2010 Business & Commercial Aviation magazine that shows the relation between distractions, interruptions or preoccupation with nonessentials and aviation accidents. - (http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/channel_bca.jsp?channel=bca)

The article about safety analizes the Colgan Air Bombardier DHC-8-400 on Feb. 12, 2009 that during a night instrument approach to Buffalo Niagara International Airport stalled and crashed.

The flight data and voice recordes proves that during a conversation between the pilot in command and the co-pilot the aircraft stalled, when the stick shaker activated, the captain's improper aft controll column inputs led to an accelerated stall from which they could not recover.

The aircraft  has a lot of sings and warnings to alert the flight crew about the possible situation.

The human brain has two ways to operate, the conscious control an the automatic system. For example, while you are learning how to drive, you became nervous, tired and felt like you can't do all that is needed. But, after some time of pratice and you are getting skilled, you usually don't think in with pedal should press, where is the shift or  where I turn the lights on, all of this routine tasks become automated. In most of the real life tasks we use the both, letting the automatic system perform the tasks but the conscious control keep his supervision under the task.

That's the warning, the human brain CAN'T handle more than two tasks at a time. One in the automatic system with conscious control and another task with the conscious control only. For example, A skillful driver in a familiar car traveling along a familiar road can perform largely on automatic, leaving enough conscious capability to carry on a conversation. however, if the automatic system is allowed to operate without any supervision, it is vulnerable to certain types of error, especially a type of error called habit capture.

The Conscius control is required in four situations: When the task is novel, when the task is perceived to be critical, difficult or dangerous, when an automatic process must be overridden to prevent habit capture or when choosing among competing activities.

 

Lets take care of our actions, a simple distraction in a critical task has several consequances.

GOL - SDU 

In the past week was released the financial results of GOL Airlines.

The company have been profitable since the FULL UNION between GOL and Varig, this union allowed the changes to get profitable again. The company gets 61.4 Million USD of profit last quarter. It means that the Airline was sucessfull and now have a oportunity to grow up.

The profit came in a excelent moment, passing through a hangar construction at SBCF (Tancredo Neves International Airport) and re-starting the Boeing 767 operations the cost grows, these profit allows the airline to continue investing in your expansion.

Military decision! - Brazilian Air Force.

The Brazilian Air Force is buying 36 jet fighters.


The purchase project, called F-X2, has 2,4 Bi dollars in its budget and is entering into its final phase, when all Factories shows the best offer trying to win, the project was started in 2001 but due technical problems the government closed the project.

In early 2007 the project was re-started in full power, the air force have been working hard since the re-start to get it done as soon as possible.

Nowadays the Brazilian air force has 720 aircrafts of them almost 36% are unable to flight that is why the F-X2 project was re-started.

A fierce dispute involves the manufacturers and the governments of the United States, France and Sweden who promote, respectively, their models Boeing F/A-18-E/F Hornet, Dassault Rafale F3 and Gripen NG.

The Center for Social Communication of the Air Force said that the F-X2  project management will proceed into original schedule to select the new Brazilian Air Force Fighter Jet.
As said the official note, the final meetings would begin in may to discuss the purchase details and perform a complete analyses according to the
Command Air Force preferences keeping the technical, operational, logistics and commercials issues as prior.

Maintenance / Operations procedures to reduce fuel comsumption!

When we pass through a crisis time like this one, the first thing to do is REDUCE COSTS.
In aviation business the most expensive factor is the fuel cost.

In the last 6 months the brazilian airlines are experiencing new procedures to reduce that cost.

In operations the companies are using the following actions (Fleet B737):

1 - Decreasing the APU use.
2 - After landing, shutdown the engine 1 for taxi.
3 - Start the APU only after the landing.
4 - Retarding the flaps extensions.

Besides the usual procedures to reduce fuel comsumption during Take-off, climb, cruise and landing.


The usual procedures saves a lot of fuel in a year.

In the maintenance they are reducing the run up test time, trying to perform an exelent trim in the engine system to prevent the fuel loss.

This package of procedures can reduce the fuel comsumption and save money, increasing the airline health and helping the airlines to pass nicely through that crisis.


Seeing from out of the aviation industry it seems a little bit absurd, but the actions that has been taken,  save a company without decrease the flight safety.

World crisis is affecting Brazil's airlines.

 Brazil's airlines shows that the crisis is hard to handle.

 

In the last month only 4 of 14 brazilians airlines showed a profitable result, it is a sign that the crisis came strong to our economy, the decrease of a loadfactor shows that  April is a not so profitable month.

It is a preview that the future can be bleak.

 

I hope not, once it can destroy and ruin the aviation bussines.
