Aer Lingus plans to sell an Airbus A330 and one of its short-haul aircraft in the first half of this year.

The carrier says in its 2010 annual report that its fleet of eight A330s is "larger than we currently require and it is intended that one aircraft will be sold in 2011".

Aer Lingus recently replaced orders for three A330-200s with Airbus A350-900s to be delivered after 2018, four years later than the planned arrival of the A330s.

The airline took delivery of a leased Airbus A320 in January and will take three more of the type in the first half of this year. It plans to return three A321s to lessors and one short-haul aircraft "is planned to be sold".

Aer Lingus today reported a full-year operating profit of €57.6 million ($81 million) for 2010, compared with an operating loss of €81 million the previous year.

This wouldn't have anything to do with the recently-announced news that EI-ORD is to be broken for spares, would it?  Or is that too much of a coincidence?
