Russian flag carrier Aeroflot has started bringing the assets of six state-controlled provincial carriers into its fold by taking over Kavminvody Avia.

On 1 October, KMV Avia is to terminate all services after having been in operation for almost 20 years, revealed Igor Zavyalov, an aide to the airline's general manager.

"We've halted selling tickets ahead of reorganisation within the framework of Aeroflot Group and will cease to exist as an independent operator," he said.

"Following the shutdown, our passengers with tickets in hand are to be flown by Aeroflot or reimbursed full fares."

KMV has rights to serve 48 cities in Russia and abroad. Its fleet comprises nine Tupolev Tu-154s and a pair of Tu-204-100s.

Under a tentative plan, it will be integrated with Aeroflot's regional subsidiary Donavia to form a combined operation based at Rostov-on-Don.

Aeroflot is understood to have committed to hiring KMV personnel, said Zavyalov. Other carriers scheduled to come under its umbrella include Rossiya, Vladivostokavia, OrenAir, Saratov Airlines and Sakhalin Airways.
