Airbus delivered 119 aircraft in the first quarter of 2011, slightly down on last year's figure of 122 in the first three months.

Airbus delivered 119 aircraft in the first quarter of 2011, slightly down on last year's figure of 122 in the first three months.

But delivery of four A380s - to Lufthansa and Qantas - plus 22 A330s meant that its long-haul output improved on 2010.

During March the airframer took orders for 29 aircraft - Cathay Pacific, Turkish Airlines and a private customer - bringing its gross total for the quarter to 69.

But cancellations of 68, including the loss of 25 A320s from Kuwaiti carrier Jazeera Airways last month, virtually wiped out Airbus' net order total for the year so far.

Airbus has some 300 commitments to its new A320neo family range, however, and the airframer is likely to be keeping other transactions undisclosed ahead of the Paris air show.

Boeing took orders for 153 aircraft in the first three months, posting a net figure of 106 by 5 April, and delivered 104 jets over the quarter.
