Airbus has told the aircraft industry it will increase production of its best-selling A320 family of jets to 42 planes a month, two aviation sources said on Friday.
The European aircraft maker is still evaluating whether its supply chain can support a further increase to 44 planes a month, they said, asking not to be identified.
EADS said in a results statement on Friday it would announce a decision on aircraft production soon.
Airbus currently produces 36 of the single-aisle jets a month and has committed to increase this to 40 a month by the first quarter of 2012 as economic recovery drives airlines to replace their fleets.
The finance director of parent EADS said earlier producing 44 planes a month would be a "bit of a stretch".
