ATR has removed Kingfisher Airlines' 38-aircraft order from its backlog, describing the airline as an "unreliable customer".

The majority of the order, for ATR 72-600s, dates from 2005 and was placed by Deccan Airlines, which was acquired by Kingfisher in 2008.

Meanwhile, the airframer's backlog now stands at 224 aircraft. As a result, it will ramp up production to deliver 72 aircraft in 2012, "at least 80" in 2013 and around 85 in 2014.

Work will be evenly split between the company's Italian and French partners, Alenia Aermacchi and EADS.

Chief executive Filippo Bagnato highlighted its success with lessors in 2011 - including GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) and NAC - which placed 21% of the total 157 orders. A further 23% were placed by new ATR customers, he added, the vast majority of which were to replace existing turboprops from other manufacturers.
