I'm currently working on a project at school for an Engineering class. Basically, I need to interview some prior/active military pilots/air crew/maintenance people on their opinion of how the B-52 can be improved. Here is the background:
The objective of this project is to apply the engineering design process to an Air Force scenario. For this project, the Air Staff is examining alternatives to fielding a new expensive bomber. One of the potential solutions is to upgrade the B-52. Your design team has been tasked to examine this design option and propose a solution.
The Air Staff has given you two overarching needs that must be met. First, you must improve the ability of the B-52 to meet its primary purpose: destroying many targets per sortie. Second, your redesign must also improve the platform survivability in future conflicts. At this point in the project, this is all the guidance you will be given in order to maximize creativity.
If any of you have any inputs, I'd be glad to hear them. There aren't really any limits other than the ones listed above.
And when you post, please be sure to post how you are related to the B-52. You don't necessarily have to work on the B-52 so any military pilots/aircrew/maintenance etc. can chime in.
