It’s been a terrifying experience for the 87 passengers and six crew on board a British Airways flight…Flight 6203 from Johannesburg skidded off the runway at Durban International at about 11am.
An eyewitness told Newswatch that it appears as if the pilot of the 737-200, overshot the runway, forcing him to brake hard. The aircraft went into a partial spin, and ended up in the mud on the side of the runway.

Airports Company of South Africa’s Colin Naidoo says: “At this stage we managed to get all the 87 passengers off the aircraft and taken into a safer location where they are now getting trauma counseling by Lifeline and also with the airline and medical attention.
“The aircraft was still stuck on the runway and due to the fact that its in the way at the runway, we have temporarily closed the runway to ensure safety for aviation.” “Once we are given the all clear and the aircraft is safely moved to another location then we’ll re-open the runway.”
