While the Emirates A380 is visiting on Wednesday to mark
the "official" opening of the new International Pier the
day is also the Airport's 70th birthday party....

.... so BHX is going "retro" for the day!!

Classic Flight Dragon Rapide G-AGTM will be coming over
from Coventry - ETA circa 1100 - to be ready to have its
photo taken next to the A380 - a Rapide having operated
the first service from BHX in 1939!

The Rapide will then be performing a number of local
flights that are being raffled in the aid of charity by
the Airport Company to its invited guests. As these
flights will now be departing from the new International
Pier I am afraid it was not possible to organise any
enthusiast pleasure flights - sorry about that.

For those into heavy metal KLM 73H PH-BXA - which is in
their 90th anniversay scheme - is planned to operate the
morning KL1423/1424 - 1030/1130 - service while Lufthansa
321 D-AIRX - in the retro scheme - is planned to operate
the evening LH4904/4905 - 1745/1825

On the lighter side BHX have been running a "£3.80" offer
for visiting "classic" aircraft - see below. By 1700 last
Friday all 20 available "slots" had been booked so assuming
reasonable weather the Elmdon apron will be full!

Types coming include a Tiger Moth, Piper Cub, Chipmunk
and various types that meant nothing to me! - I will try
and get a full list with "slot" times in due course

While yesterday's A380 flypast was fairly low key this is
a major event for the airport that has had a lot of advance
publicity and is likely to attract a large crowd - if you
are coming to BHX on Wednesday allow plenty of time!

The BBC will be flying in on the A380 from Dubai so expect
good media coverage and Tim Clarke, Emirates President,
will also present

Meanwhile the BAEG blog at http://baeg.blogspot.com/ has
been updated again to include further photos from Saturday

I hope to have more information on the operational "plan"
for the day on Tuesday
