Without a shadow of a doubt the Boeing 727 series aircraft is one of the greatest airliners of all time. It may not be the fastest, the most beautiful or the most revolutionary, but the 727 is quite simply a stunning piece of engineering. I am nominating it as the greatest civil aircraft of all time because of its sheer ruggedness and ability. Anyone who has seen the footage of the World Airways last flght out of Da Nang or a jungle landing in a 72 can attest to this. It was and still is a technical masterpiece, and I seriously doubt that any modern jetliner could cope with the conditions the 727 operated in. It didn't earn the nickname 'DC-3 of the jet age' for no reason. Unfortunately being just 16 years old and living in Northern Ireland, I don't think I will ever get the chance to fly on a 727. At least I can still see the FedEx airframes occasionally in Canada...
