I believe Sky europe have already ceased ops,I cant see any of the others going under Especially the major airlines(united,Virgin)

or any of the national flag carriers with the exception of Alitalia.LOT is 69% state owned and Aeroflot belongs to 1 of the richest countries in the world.

If i was to put money on 1 of these collapsing I'd have a punt on Spanair or Clickair.

Re: Bookmakers odds on the next airline to collapse

Looks like the next one will be Olympic Airlines

Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis is currently chairing an Inner Cabinet meeting on the issue of the Greek national air carrier, while the European Commission is expected to approve the consolidation plan submitted by the Transport Ministry as early as today. Under the plan submitted, Greece’s debt-ridden national air carrier Olympic Airlines will be replaced by Pantheon Airlines, while the private investor to take over the new company has to maintain its name and logo and keep it flying to isolated areas. All staff will be sacked with only those essential to Pantheon (the project envisaging the rebirth of the Olympic Airlines) being rehired for the new schedule, and with special provisions for the others. Concerned over the future, the Federation of the OA personnel staged Wednesday an emergency meeting. Transport Minister Kostis Hatzidakis reiterated, however, that those reacting to the plan to have the company privatisation have nothing to worry about

Looks like it could be Flyglobespan

    From The Independant

Sources close to the Civil Aviation Authority are privately believed to be
discussing the future of the firm before one of the toughest trading periods of
    the year for airlines.

Meanwhile E-Clear, the payment firm that sought to amalgamate the now-defunct XL
and Zoomcompanies two months ago, was said to be seeking to include Flyglobespan
in any roll-up. London-based tour operator Sunwings is also believed to have
    been mooted in the plan.

Flyglobespan denied any knowledge of E-Clear's plans, saying: "Flyglobespan is
strong, robust and financially sound. It is well placed for the future after a
    very strong summer."

The company flies to 23 destinations from Scotland, employing around 1,300
staff. It posted a £20m loss last year.

Re: Bookmakers odds on the next airline to collapse

Looks like it could be Sky Europe..after the decision by York Capitals to dis-engage their investment in the Slovak airline.Bank Rothschild has invited potential bidders to come forward by this Thursday - just to break even the airline would need an injection of around 70M €
