Box 15 crews are responded around 12:30pm with multiple agencies on an aircraft crash near the intersection of Shepard Rd and Ashville Pike in the far northern part of Pickaway County, just inside of Harrison Township Fire Department jurisdiction. Early report have indicated the plane was a training flight with three people on board two flying pilots and one instructor, all three were killed. The aircraft with US registration N587X belonging to Air Tahoma, and is a Convair 580.

Fire crews were hampered by access issues due to the plane coming to a rest several hundred yards from a road in the middle of a local farms corn field. The crash scene was over 150 yards long and 50+ yards wide. Several grass fire trucks from northern Pickaway county and southern Franklin and western Fairfield county’s were called in. Columbus Fire crews also responded to the area as extra units and Hazmat 4 was also sent due to possible Hazmat cargo. (None were found) A foam truck from Madison Township along with Air Rescue & Fire Fighting crews responding from on Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base/Rickenbacker International Airport, and were sent deep into the corn field to help battle the fires.
Box 15 crews were requested by Columbus and Madison Township fire crews just 10 minutes into the incident. Box 15 unit #1 responded and set up rehab in the staging area due to access issues. Box 15 crews were able to help the crews inside the crash scene Box 15 unit #2 was also responded to help resupply unit#1 and serve refreshments. Box 15 crews throughout the day served over 80 people, 240 bottles of water, and two gallons of Sqwincher. Unit #2 and unit #1 were cleared at 1615hrs and returned to quarters.
