Dutch legal company De Vos & Partners has been appointed as curator of wet-lease specialist Denim Air after it was declared bankrupt.

The Amsterdam-based operator had a fleet comprising around a dozen Fokker 50s and Bombardier Q300s.

While a spokesman for De Vos says the company is unable at present to give any information on the status of Denim Air, official documents from an Amsterdam court confirm that the carrier - under its registered name of Emergo Hoofddorp, operating as Denim Airways - has been declared bankrupt.

Denim Air moved out of scheduled operations in 2005 after encountering intense competition. In recent years it has been operating on behalf of several other carriers, including Spanish regional airline Air Nostrum.

A representative for the Dutch accountancy institute says that while, under Dutch law, there is a chance that Denim Air will be resurrected, this will not be in its current form.

A source familiar with the situation tells ATI sister publication Commercial Aviation Online that the carrier has seen its activity fall heavily in recent months, and has been in dispute over a pilot contract.

It had a contract to transport Norwegian forces personnel as well as a contract in Nigeria for Arik Air.

Investor Panta Holdings wholly-owns Denim Air. Panta declines to comment on the company's situation. Denim Air could not be reached.
