A pilot was arrested at Heathrow on 'suspicion' of being drunk after being reported to the police by colleagues.The United Airlines flight was about to depart to Chicago with 124 passengers and 11 crew on board when police arrived and breath tested the pilot who was then taken to Heathrow police station. The pilot a 51-year-old man thought to be American was released on bail. Passengers were put on other flights after the scheduled flight was cancelled.

The pilot who was arrested and bailed at Heathrow Airport at 12.30pm, has been charged, as being over the limit. The pilot Erwin Vermont Washington, from Lakewood Colorado was about to take charge of an aircraft for a flight to Chicago. Departure was imminent when the police arrived and arrested the pilot a BAA spokesperson said.
