Whilst out on business in Dubai, I have enclosed a log mostly seen early mornings and late evenings. I stayed at the Sheraton Deira Hotel, looking around I think this is by far the best hotel for views, approximately four miles away from the airport by taxi. The hotel has 6 floors some rooms face the airport but I doubt if these would give a good view. The best place is the roof terrace with excellent facilities, swimming pool, bar etc. From here you can see both runways and taxiways, early morning haze can be a problem at times, but this tends to clear as the day goes on. The mornings I was there aircraft were landing over the top of the hotel, this changed about 11.00am and for the rest of the day and night aircraft were taking off over the hotel this can make it difficult for pictures due to the aircraft being directly above you. I had no problem spotting from here just be careful not to hang telescopes and cameras over the wall the staff do not like it. I used my SBS box on the terrace with no problems the pool area has plenty of sockets to plug your laptop into, all in all a very good stay I would definitely go back to this hotel.

A word of warning spotting and photography is NOT tolerated in and around the airport you will get arrested if caught.

Hi,

Im going to dubai next month,

I am going to be staying about 30 minutes away from the airport,

So i will not be staying at this hotel.

Is there any other way of taking pictures of aircrafts, Or any other places where i can see planes land/Depart and have a chance of taking pictures?

Would be great if you could help me!

Hi Lloyd

I would not risk taking photos around the airport the UAE police are paranoid about us taking photos, and you will quickly find yourself in the police station.

You can use the Sheraton roof terrace but you need to go to reception on arrival and ask, you may have to pay a small amount, but its worth it and they tollerate the spotters and are very friendly, plus good food and drinks and a pool to cool off in.
