Dusseldorf International Airport announced Monday that it has welcomed its first B747-8 freighter.

The charter flight, which was operated by British Airways on behalf of a major Dusseldorf forwarder, arrived in Dusseldorf from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Forty-five tonnes of textiles were off-loaded, and 13 tonnes of electronics were then loaded onto the freighter. It then flew to Frankfurt, where it resumed its scheduled operations.

DUS Cargo Logistics handles cargo for approximately 30 schedules airlines, and it is a hub for Lufthansa and Air Berlin.

The airport said much of its success is due to its strategic position within the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
