Middle Eastern carrier Etihad Airways is ordering another pair of Airbus A330-200 freighters, bringing the Abu Dhabi-based carrier's total to four.

The airline deploys the type through its Etihad Crystal Cargo division.

"We are strongly committed to building our presence in the cargo sector with the platform of Abu Dhabi as our hub to connect global trade lanes," said Etihad Airways chief James Hogan.

He added that the carrier was "very pleased with [the A330 freighter's] high reliability and versatility".

Airbus confirmed that the United Arab Emirates operator has signed a firm order for two more A330-200Fs.

While Etihad has not identified an engine selection, it previously chose the Rolls-Royce Trent 700 for its first two freighters, delivered in August and September 2010.

Airbus chief operating officer for customers John Leahy said the type would allow Etihad to serve markets which "do not make business sense with large freighters".

" The most important thing in life is to look into the future and not dwell in the past"
