Glad to see that the Worl's militarys are seeing what the technical comunity has known for years:  adding new stuff to old technology only gets you so far.  If BAE would have re engined the RR Adour with the HNW F124 years ago, they would still be a front runner.

Whats interesting is that a RAF Typhoon whilst demoing the type to the Singapore Air Force a few years back defeated three Singapore F-16s!

They turned down the Typhoon for the F-15! So now they have turned down the Hawk in favour of the Lockheed Martin offering or the enhanced Yak-130 (That is what the M-346 is).

They say they wanted to buy an aircraft that can train pilots for fitth generation aircraft, yet they ordered the F-15! (An RAF Typhoon also defeated two USAF F-15s!)

Now my money would be on a Hawk trained Typhoon pilot over a T-50/M-346 trained F-15 pilot any day of the week.

Singapore have really shot themselves in the foot!

I stand slightly corrected there Rapier, although jeepers the Italians are spinning a bit of yarn there! That's almost as bad as Douglas saying they designed the T-45 and it isnt a Hawk!Smile

Either way Singapore made a big mistake by opting for cheaper aircraft.
