    Farnborough Air Show 2008 News

This is the thread to post all your Farnborough News and Info Requests

    News

Qatar Airways plans to hold a joint press conference with Airbus next week at Britain's Farnborough International Airshow, likely signaling a major plane order.

The company did not indicate what the press conference concerned, but an industry source said the Gulf-based airline was expected to announce a large plane order at the show.

Qatar Airways, one of the leading plane-buyers among quickly expanding Middle Eastern carriers, has traditionally been a staunch Boeing customer. Last year it ordered 30 of Boeing's new 787s and has 27 of its larger 777s on order.

At last year's Paris air show, Qatar confirmed a previously announced order for 80 new Airbus A350 XWB models -- which will compete with the 787 -- and three additional A380 superjumbos, worth about USD$17 billion in total.

During the airshow itself, the iconic aircraft is due to flypast on Wednesday 16th July and will fly in the world-renowned Farnborough air displays on Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July 2008.

Boeing to showcase Air India's newest 777-300ER

FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom, July 12, 2008 -- Air India's newest Boeing [NYSE: BA] 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplane arrived Saturday in Farnborough, United Kingdom, ahead of Monday's opening of the Farnborough International Air Show. The 777-300ER will be on display during the air show highlighting its new livery, interior and passenger amenities.

The 777-300ER is the 10th 777 delivered to Air India from its December 2005 order of 68 Boeing jetliners.

The aircraft, named "Jammu and Kashmir" in keeping with Air India's tradition of naming its 777s after the various states of India, has a three-class configuration, including four first-class, 35 executive class and 303 economy seats. The airline will operate the 777-300ER on its India to United States via London route.

Air India, India's national flagship carrier, in July 2007 became the first India-based airline to operate nonstop flights from India to the United States with its first 777-200LR (Longer Range) Worldliner airplane.

The twin-engine Boeing 777 is the most fuel-efficient airplane in its category, a key element in its leading economic and environmental performance.

Sukhoi will be announcing 30 orders for the Superjet at Farnborough

A spokeswoman said. The orders will be unveiled at a news conference on Tuesday. Russia aims to secure at least 10% of the world airliner market with new passenger jets and to take third place among aircraft-producing countries by 2015-2018
