It is currently the trend to create kids' shows with talking vehicles (think Thomas the Tank Engine, Underground Ernie, Roary the Racing Car).

On an aviation theme, anyone remember this one?  (Still being shown on Channel 4 or 5):

 Or my favourite:

(Auntie Mabel had her aircraft parked outside her house long before John Travolta!!)

It also has a link to games and you can print out her spotty plane to colour in (if the excitement isn't too much, of course!)  :D

What a great theme for this forum.

Barely a moment goes by that I havn't got this tune in my head.... and the lyrics are so profound.....Wink

Harold the Helicopter

(composed by Mike O'Donnell & Junior Cambell) Britt Allcrot Inc.

Who do you call when the chips are down

When your back is against the wall

When there's no way out

And time is running out

And you're heading for a fall?

High in the sky

Suddenly comes the hero

You can rely on him

Is there anybody out there?

I remember being a big fan of Jimbo and the jet set as a kid.

Does anyone else remember a French black & white series called "The Aeronauts"?.

Not a cartoon series but with real actors! Similar to those other half term school break classics, "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe" and "The Flashing Blade", our two dubbed heroes were two l'Armee de l'Air Mirage III pilots based at Dijon. They always managed to get into scrapes with various baddies and somehow win through.

As I recall, every episode was filmed in perfect sunshine that made their silver Mirage fighters particularly appealing and to me, sums up what we tend to remember about childhood and summer.......remember that !!

Is there anybody out there?

I'm a child of the eighties so our main aviation show was 'Airwolf', not exactly what you'd call classic television but still pretty exciting stuff when you were seven years old. I also remember being really impressed with the tiger striped MD-500 in 'Magnum PI' though I was slightly afraid of Tom Selleck's moustache (I still am to be honest).

It's not a kids show, and I didn't really follow it myself, but as generally dodgy shows with an aviation link go, you couldn't beat "Fantasy Island".  (The little guy yelling "The plane, the plane!!")

By the wonder of Google I found this:

Trivia for
"Fantasy Island" (1978)

  • The plane that was used in Fantasy Island was up for auction in the '90s. It was autographed by all the guest stars. Before Fantasy Island this plane was also owned by Richard D. Bach, author of "Jonathan Livingston Seagull"

This comes under the heading of "things you didn't know you didn't know" I think.....................

If we're listing cool aircraft from kids shows then that Golden Condor thing from Mysterious Cities of Gold looked pretty cool.

from what i remember the flight deck was a bit of a maverick design though.

I have just realised that Tailspin had the beaver-like aircraft flown by Baloo....I think?  Therefore it is obviously my favourite

Its got to be Thunderbirds hasnt it? No not those guys that were over in the UK recently, from the best aerial display team, with the best aircraft ever built, from the best country in the world sorry lapsed in to their commentary then Zip it!

The Tracey brothers I'm talking about Cool Thunderbird 2 was always my favourite especially when carrying the Mole Geeked but if I have to pick a single flyer then obviously it has to be Lady P's Roller. I'm surprised RR havent used pink more often with their aero enginesStick out tongue

Hang on what about Fireball XL5? Geeked

Just had a thought, in view of the recent postal strikes, and for all you Antipodean fans out there, this is how they deliver mail Aussie style, according to CBeebies.
