VISITORS
Both today's newcomers appeared early this evening. First to arrive was Norwegian Air Shuttle B738 LN-NIC (38881) from Helsinki & it was followed by British A/W B763 G-BNWZ (25733), which positioned across from LHR. By my reckoning this leaves G-BNWL (25203) as the only British A/W B763 that has not yet visited Gatwick.

FLEET NEWS
Aer Lingus. The two former Meridiana Fly A320s due to be operated by the carrier on behalf of Virgin Atlantic were registered to Celestial Aviation on 21/1 as EI-EZV (2001 ex I-EEZG) & EI-EZW (1983 ex I-EEZF). Both are currently at Seletar.

ROUTE NEWS
Garuda. As strongly rumoured, the carrier is to start a six weekly service from Jakarta to Gatwick from 4Q13 using B773s (ten on order with deliveries from this summer through to 2016). The airport made the announcement today & more details appear at:

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
January was not a good month for us on the airline front as we lost Air Berlin, Meridiana Fly & Korean Air, while Aerosvit effectively went out of business. Even though we had no new airlines operating scheduled services to Gatwick & despite a slow start, it was still a good month for first visits, with 49 appearing (26 airliners & 23 biz jets). This was one more than in the same month last year & the 4th highest January figure in the last 15 years.
New A320s comprised a pair of British A/W examples, one new easyJet, one from Meridiana Fly, four from Aegean & the only two FreeBird ones that hadn't visited us before. Other new Airbuses were a THY A321 & a Virgin Atlantic A346. On the Boeing front we saw a B733 from Europe Airpost & single B738s from Ryanair, Thomson A/W, Norwegian Air Shuttle, THY & Ukraine International (the latter ex Aerosvit). Other Boeings were a B739 from THY & an Alitalia B772, which diverted in en route to LHR for reregistration. Making a nice change from Airbuses & Boeings were a Sun-Air Do328JET, Eastern A/W E145 & a Flybe E175, while other Embraers on diversion from LCY were the only BA Cityflyer example that hadn't been to Gatwick before & single E190s from Lufthansa Regional & Alitalia CityLiner.
The biz jets were registered in 14 different countries & the more interesting ones were probably BD700 A7-CEF, Beechjet OK-ESC, HS125 OM-OIG & E500 OO-MAS.

E505 G-CHKE (5050117) was cancelled from the register on 29/1 as transferred to the Ukraine. Ce525B G-YEDC (0162 ex M-YEDC) joined the register yesterday, still with Air Charter Scotland.

Anyone fancy buying a former RAF radar station?
