VISITORSTwo newcomers to start the month. Arriving early afternoon was Alitalia A319 EI-IMU (5130) operating a very delayed service from Milan/Malpensa on behalf of Air One. The other newcomer was Premier D-ISAG (RB-221) operated by Peak Air.FLEET NEWS Norwegian Air Shuttle B738 LN-NGE (39050) is due to arrive at Oslo on delivery tomorrow.ROUTE NEWS Meridiana Fly is to start a daily A319 Verona service from 12/10ISS597 eta 09.00, etd 19.55 as ISS598 (eta changing to 08.25 from 28/10). It seems strange that this is due to day stop. There will also be some changes to the timing of the current service from Florence. Further route news may be found below.MISCELLANEOUS ITEMSI may have missed half of it while in Africa, but September was a very satisfactory month for newcomers with a total of 58 compared to 37 in the same period last year. At the end of 3Q12 we had seen 548 first visits to Gatwick, compared to 460 at the end of 3Q11. The breakdown of September's first visits was 36 airliners, 20 biz jets, one twin & a single Spitfire, which I am counting as a first visit even though it only did a low pass down the runway.Among our regular airlines, Air Berlin gave us an A320 & A330, British A/W loaned us two A320s from LHR along with a B763 for refurbishment, Emirates pitched in with the latest three B773s, as did Ryanair & Norwegian with four & two new B738s respectively. EasyJet took delivery of another A320, Lufthansa provided us with two A321s & a DH8D, Onur Air an A320 & A321 & we also saw another THY A321 & B738, Air China A330, Meridiana A330 & Korean Air B772, along with single E175s from Belavia & Flybe. From the non-regulars came an Avion Express A319, two WOW Air A320s (though these are set to become regular), a Small Planet Polska A320, Mistral Air B734, two Travel Service B738s, a German CRJ8 & a sole military visitor in the shape of a Belgian E145. The twenty biz jets comprised two Mustangs, a Citation 550, two 560XLS, five Challengers, three Falcon 900EX & a 2000LX, a pair of Galaxies, two Gulfstream 4s, a HS125 & a Lear 60, while the twin was a Swiss Avanti. On the airline front, Hong Kong A/L has stopped its business-class only A332 service, though their aircraft have been spending time here for possible charter work, & Air Nigeria ceased operations, while Atlantic A/W appear to have stopped, for the winter at least. Lufthansa will suspend the twice-daily service from Frankfurt until the spring, while Estonian Air will disappear to London City. I have also been told today that we will lose Rossiya, Montenegro A/L, Czech Holidays & Air One (a bit odd given that the early afternoon flight has recently moved to later in the day), while Ryanair will make a number of reductions for the winter, with flights from Dublin, Cork & Shannon only (more opportunities for the orange one?). A number of seasonal services have also ceased & it remains to see whether they will return next year. On the plus side, Gambia Wings is due to start to Gatwick in two days time, Icelandair on 18/10 with Aegean & Air Arabia Maroc from 28/10. The same date will also see Aer Lingus begin a service from Belfast (with A319s?), while the Korean Air B772 is to be rescheduled & will no longer night stop. No guarantees, given recent performance, that they will turn up but THY currently plans to use the following - A319 on THY1997 on 10/11 & B739 on THY1981 on 10/10 & 07/11.Due tomorrow:N4PG Gulf 550 eta 07.05 (first visit)There is also an intriguing rumour that a USAF C-20 (Gulf 4) is due tomorrow evening from Rennes to night stop.NAX flights - 1ZN/NOE (also 12J), 32A/NOQ, 34G/DYE, 36C/NGB, 38W/KKW, 51M/NOJ, 55Q/NIA, 4441/DYN, 5818/NOFCREDITSIan Gawtrey, Roy Blewett, Simon Shoubridge, John Creasey, Derek Wakelin, Neil Greatorex, Paul Mutton, Mr Anon, Jethro, Skyliner, ATDB, the European Ryder Cup Team & anybody else that I have forgotten.Happy spotting!
