VISITORS
Executive Aviation Services Citation 550 G-YPRS (0935 ex EI-PAL, G-IPAL, G-IPAC) made its first visit to Gatwick this morning. Another newcomer early this evening was Flybe DHC-8 G-ECOI (4224) - only G-ECOF (4216) has yet to visit & that is currently with Wideroe as LN-WDW.
FLEET NEWS
Astraeus B752 G-STRX (25621), which is leased to BMI, routed to Lasham as AEU73P this morning for a spot of TLC.
British A/W B735 G-GFFH (27354) has been parked at Gatwick since 19th November when it flew its last revenue service from Jersey as BAW8048. Presumably, it will move on in the not too distant future.
Delta is believed to be planning to ask Boeing to make significant changes to its order book. These are thought to involve cutting back the Northwest B787 order, while expanding Delta's own order for B772LRs.
EasyJet B737 G-EZJK (30246) operated its last revenue flight yesterday as EZY2164 from Amsterdam to Luton & was ferried to Southend today as EZY8001 to be painted all white prior to its return to the lessor. The next A319 batch will be in the G-EZF* range, while the new A320 batch will be in the G-EZT* range. The airline is still committed to take delivery of c/n 3805, ordered by GB A/W, which will probably become G-TTOK. This, along with the rest of the G-TTO* block, will be disposed of once the "real" easyJet A320s are delivered.
European Air Charter was forced to call in the administrators over the weekend. It is understood that Jet2 has taken over the flights that the airline operated on behalf of Palmair.
Flybe. The rumours that Flybe would like to take BMI Regional off Lufthansa's hands persist & Reuters reports that any deal could also include BMI Baby.
LTE has ceased operations again.
Monarch. As posted recently, the airline will received easyJet A321s G-TTIH (3546) & G-TTII (3575) early next year & it is now thought (unsurprisingly) that they will become G-OZBT/U respectively.
Ryanair. Not really "fleet news", but Ryanair is launching a new takeover bid for Aer Lingus. A previous bid was turned down by the European Commission, but Ryanair feels that changes in the market place may result in its bid being looked upon more favourably this time.
Sterling former B737 OY-MRO (28497) has been registered to AWAS as N497TF & was due to leave Stockholm/Arlanda for Jacksonville/Cecil Field via Bangor today.
Tarom. In case they restart their Gatwick service from Cluj, I shall mention that the airline has recently taken delivery of B738 YR-BGP (37740 ex D-ABKB) from Air Berlin & will also receive YR-BGQ (37741 ex D-ABKC) shortly.
XL A/W former B738 G-XLAD (29052) has been rolled out at Istanbul in full Atlant-Soyuz scheme & will become VP-BMI.
ROUTE NEWS
Hamburg International. Yesterday's flight was a Santa special rather than a skiing charter as it flew to Enontekio in Finland. Derek Malt gave the aircraft's captain the third degree & discovered that the aircraft was then routing from Finland down to Jerez, Spain. The captain expects to be back at Gatwick some time next week. Apparently, the reason that the aircraft had to return to stand was that a young boy was creating on board saying that he hated Santa & didn't want to see him, which meant his grandparents, who were treating him the trip, had to come off as well. Can't see him getting a lot of Christmas presents!
Oman Air. The latest date being quoted for the airline's move to LHR is now 15th January.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Looking back, November was not a vintage month by any stretch of the imagination, but considering how quiet Gatwick is these days, 40 first visits during the month must be considered reasonably good under the circumstances. This broke down to 21 airliners, 16 biz jets & 3 twins. Little to comment on except for the two Dniproavia B737s on a football charter, several visits from Ethiopian Cargo B752F ET-AJS & a rare appearance by a biz jet registered in Monaco (Citation 525B 3A-MRG). New services were started by Hamburg International, who are operating a series of charters, & Cimber Air who began a six times weekly Billund service with CRJ-200s. Hopefully, this month will bring a few interesting winter holiday flights & Santa specials (ever the optimist!)
