VISITORS
Today's only newcomer was Hi Fly A332 CS-TFZ (1008) in polar bear scheme, which positioned in to operate a Thomas Cook flight to Sharm el Sheikh. This aircraft was originally destined for XL A/W & has recently been on lease to Strategic A/W, who operated it from Sydney on behalf of the RAAF, transporting troops to Afghanistan.
FLEET NEWS
EasyJet A320 G-EZTJ (3979) made its first flight from Finkenwerder on 29/6 wearing the test registration D-AVVO. B737 G-EZJP (32412) was cancelled from the UK register yesterday as exported to South Korea. It should soon be leaving Stansted as HL8205 for Eastar Jet.
Flybe EMB145 G-EMBI (145126) was registered to BMI Regional yesterday.
ROUTE NEWS
EasyJet announced two new destinations from Gatwick today. Porto will start on 02/11/09 & Hamburg on 02/02/10.
Efly is hoping to start direct services between Gatwick & Malta & also via Catania following BA's decision to drop the Malta route.
Iraqi A/W is due to start services to Gatwick from 16/7, though the date may slip. This will be a thrice-weekly service arriving at 20.05 on Tuesdays & 20.10 on Thursdays & Sundays. Flight numbers will be IAW623/4 & the aircraft type is reported to be B733 or B734. The flights will be managed by Viking & presumably will be flown by Viking aircraft though, in time, Iraqi A/W hopes to use its own aircraft. Flights will route via Istanbul & will use the South terminal. The mention of B734 aircraft is interesting as Viking doesn't have any aircraft of this model, but Iraqi A/W has one, along with two B732s, one B733 & two B737s.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
New biz jets continue to arrive on the UK register & the latest one is Falcon 900EX (224) G-JPSZ, which was registered to Sorven Aviation on 30/6.
Virgin Atlantic is seeking to axe 600 jobs. At present, services from Gatwick appear to be unaffected, though the airline plans to drop it daily service from LHR to Chicago & to cut one of its two daily LHR to Hong Kong flights.
My mind was obviously elsewhere yesterday when I compiled my summary of June as I mistyped two of the biz jet visitors - CN-TJF should read CN-TJB & OE-FAS should read OE-GAS.
