VISITORS
Another three newcomers today, starting with Citation 510 F-GRET (0141 ex N141BG, LZ-AMA) of WiJet, which arrived from Chambery this morning. Lunchtime saw another new THY A321, TC-JRM (4643), while easyJet A320 G-EZUM (5020) arrived late afternoon on its delivery flight from Finkenwerder & promptly operated an Alicante rotation.
On their second visits were CRJ-850 OE-ISA, which arrived from Vnukovo & Air Berlin A321 D-ALSC on the evening Nuremberg service.

FLEET NEWS
Air Berlin. Plans for A320 D-ABFZ (4988) underwent a last minute change yesterday. It is still at Finkenwerder & may now be sold. 
Astraeus Although the former B752 G-STRX (25621) left Shannon yesterday as EI-ETR for Bangor, ME, it had to return due to a pressurisation problem.
EasyJet A320 G-EZUM (5020) was delivered from Finkenwerder to Gatwick this afternoon.
Estonian Air B733 ES-ABK (28572) was registered to FNBC Leasing Corp as N4620F at Lasham on 24/1.
Malev sadly ceased all operations this morning. The airline has had a long association with the airport since Il-14P HA-MAI visited on 12/10/58. A list of Malev aircraft that have been to Gatwick over the past 54 years appears after today's movements (apologies for the lack of c/ns for the Russian-built aircraft, but it was too much like hard work). As debtors start putting liens on the aircraft, which usually have to be paid by the leasing company (in this case ILFC) before they get their aircraft back, the following 14 B737s were due to have been ferried from Budapest to a "neutral" airport, Shannon, this afternoon since this is an airport to which Malev didn't fly & would avoid ILFC having to pay Malev's debts.

That would have left B737s HA-LOA (28254), which is at Tel Aviv, HA-LOB (29346), which is thought to be on maintenance at Budapest, HA-LOI (29350), which is at Dublin & HA-LOP (29354), which is at Budapest. In the event, the pilots initially refused to fly their aircraft to Shannon (& who can blame them!) so three of the fourteen remain at Budapest as I type this (HA-LOG/M/S) while the other eleven are making/have made their ferry flights this evening, some hours later than originally flight planned.

Ryanair B738 EI-EVG (40292) made its first flight yesterday. The carrier has been quick off the mark following the demise of Malev & has announced that it will base four aircraft at Budapest from 17/2 to operate 31 routes (Gatwick is not one of them). It's an ill wind, etc.

A bad few days for European airlines with long-established carriers Malev & Spanair both ceasing operations. Let's hope that is the end of it, at least for a long while, though I have my doubts.
In case anyone has not seen the weather forecast, be prepared for possible major disruption to air traffic in the southeast tomorrow evening & Sunday morning due to snow.
