VISITORSAegean A321 SX-DVO (3462) was today's only newcomer on this morning's service from Athens.FLEET NEWS Air Europa B738 EC-ISE (30290) was ferried from Norwich to Budapest yesterday after painting for Air Niugini.EasyJet A320 G-EZGO (4785) left Gatwick at lunchtime as EZY9001 on a ferry flight to Geneva for maintenance & is reported to be transferring to the carrier's Swiss subsidiary.Monarch A306 G-MONR (540) & A320 G-MPCD (079) were both withdrawn from service at Manchester yesterday & ferried to Brussels today.Thomson A/W B738 G-TAWK (37240) made its first flight on Saturday. Six more (G-TAWL to TAWR) are due for delivery in 1Q13 & 2Q13. B733 G-THOP seems to have been withdrawn from service at Manchester on 30/10 (confirmation required)ROUTE NEWSAegean is to move its daily Larnaca service from LHR to Gatwick from 31/3:AEE758 eta 15.30, etd 16.35 as AEE759MISCELLANEOUS ITEMSI had to check the date to make sure that it wasn't April 1st when I read this today on TravelMole: "Cardiff Airport could be treated as Heathrow's sixth terminal to solve a shortage of air capacity in the southeast of England.Sir Howard Davies, who is leading a government-commissioned review on airport expansion in the UK, said the plan was one of a number he will consider."Well, it's only 130 miles from London - have they been talking to Mr O'Leary perhaps? The airport expansion in the southeast debate is really getting quite ridiculous &, if I have managed to remember them all, the runners & riders (in no particular order) at present seem to be:* A third & possibly fourth runway to the north of LHR* Extra runways to the west of LHR with tunnels over the M25* A new airport in Oxfordshire or somewhere to the west of LHR* A second runway at Stansted* A second runway at Gatwick* A second runway at Luton* Boris Island & other floating airports* Expand Manston* Expand Birmingham* Link Northolt to LHR via a (very) long taxiway (shades of Schiphol!) * Rail link between LHR & Gatwick* Rail link between LHR & Stansted* LHR Terminal 6 at Cardiff!Every day seems to see yet another (often preposterous) idea being tossed in & at this rate someone will be suggesting reopening Croydon or even moving London to another part of the country! Perhaps I should throw a few into the melting pot myself - what about those big disused runways at Greenham Common, Lyneham, Upper Heyford or Alconbury or that large hardly used airfield at Fairford? I am slightly surprised that nobody has yet mentioned Bournemouth, which historians will remember was, for a couple of years after the last war, the UK's only intercontinental airport until LHR (or LAP as it was) opened. How long before things get even sillier & the next thing you know somebody is mentioning virtually all the smaller airports & airfields within a radius of 150 miles of London, & there are a lot of them, as possible candidates? Hopefully someone will bite the bullet soon & finally have the courage to make a (sensible) decision & actually do something, rather than leave it in the "too difficult to deal with" box. Whatever happens, I have a feeling that it will be a case of too little too late & am not holding my breath. My thanks to Dave Sawyer, Howard Sole & Paul Smith for some extra information regarding yesterday's biz list:16+03 Hansa an earlier date is 07/09/7146 MS760 an earlier date is 25/04/70113 MS760 an earlier date is 06/04/71119 MS760 an earlier date is 05/12/71F-GEPQ SN601 add date of 07/10/88F-BTTU SN601 presents an interesting puzzle. It would appear that two SN601s carried the registration F-BTTU - c/ns 22 & 37. F-BTTU (22) was reported at Gatwick on 07/02/78, but had supposedly become TN-ADB in 08/77 before being w/o as such on 30/03/79. This would suggest that it was actually c/n 37 at Gatwick on that date.
