MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Frankly, I can't remember what I have included about this in previous roundups so, with thanks to Derek Malt, here is an update on some forthcoming building works at Gatwick:
Stands 60-63 will close next week for a year due to rebuilding Pier 5. This is to build a new departure level on top, the same as they did in the South terminal, to stop inbound & outbound passengers crossing one corridor & delaying outbound flights.
The actual stands are also being re-configured to allow more aircraft types to use them.
Stands 57-59 will undergo the same process from Summer 2013 & the whole project will be complete by March 2014 at a total cost of £75m.

The CAA has reported that UK airport passengers were up 4% in 2011 following three years of falling numbers. However, the CAA pointed out that 2010's figures were affected by the volcanic ash crisis, snow & industrial action. If these events were removed from the comparative, the increase last year would have been below 1%.
Heathrow handled a record 69 million passengers - 6% more than in 2010. Luton had a 9% rise, London City was up 8% and Gatwick numbers rose 7%. Stansted recorded a 3% drop. Further details may be found at http://www.uk-airport-news.info/luton-airport-news-080312.html
