VISITORS
PC-12 D-FKGI (1080) registered to Hansgrohe GmbH made its first visit this morning, arriving from Hahn. Other than that, a quiet day with nothing to report.

FLEET NEWS
British A/W B752 G-CPET (29115) was due to be sold today & cancelled from the UK register. It is scheduled to leave Gatwick at 13.00 tomorrow on delivery to FedEx as N956FD (which it already carries).
Malev. All six of the failed carrier's B736s left Shannon today routing via Bangor, ME for scrapping at Goodyear, AZ. For the record, the aircraft concerned were HA-LOD (28259), HA-LOE (28260), HA-LOF (29348), HA-LOG (28261), HA-LOJ (29349) & HA-LON (29353).
Norwegian Air Shuttle B738 LN-DYX (39011) made its first flight today.
RAM B763 CN-ROG (27212) was registered N365CM for Air Cargo Management on 10/2 & ferried from Casablanca to Jacksonville, FL today prior to freighter conversion.
Ryanair B738 EI-EVF (40291) arrived at Dublin on delivery today. EI-EVI (38502) made its first flight today.
Spanair. The former carrier's fleet of A320/321s is being reregistered & ferried out of Spain at a very fast rate. The situation so far is understood to be as follows:

ROUTE NEWS
Atlantic A/W is moving from Stansted to Gatwick to operate an extended service to the Faroe Islands. The Faroese airline will fly a twice-weekly (days 1&4) seasonal service from late May to mid September, as well as flights at Easter. The Faroe Islands, mid-way between Shetland and Iceland, have enjoyed increased interest due to the hit Danish TV drama on BBC4 "The Killing". More good news for Gatwick.
Meridiana-Fly. Reference to Air One yesterday should, of course, have read Air Italy.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
This month the Gatwick Aviation Society features a guest speaker on Friday (17th) rather than our usual pictorial slide show.
Loadmaster Malcolm Porter will give a talk entitled "The life and TYNES of a loadie". Malcolm is an expert on the Canadair CL-44/Yukon/CL-44-0 Guppy and has a wealth of tales to tell from his travels with these wonderful propliners. In addition to his CL-44 exploits he was involved with a huge variety of other aircraft and some very "entertaining" crew/managers/owners.
He promises to keep us glued to our seats with true stories of 5cwt omelets in a Handley-Page Hastings, dead whales in a Bristol Freighter en route to Northolt for the Queen, elephants for TMAC, his time in Rhodesia shipping loads of "interesting" freight, tales of that nice man Mr Gaddafi and F/O Mop (honest), Sky Air's B707 making an overweight takeoff every night for the RAF out of Brize Norton, SAT L-100 Hercules in Miami, Zimex Herc in Vichey and then in Khartoum, his own airline "oop north",  BAe's disaster ship the STA and of course his all-time-favourite Conroy CL-44-0 N447T!
We would like a good turnout please so cancel the pub outing, tell the wife you are busy and can't go to visit her mum, bring £3 to get in and come along and enjoy the evening. Start at 7.30pm in ROOM 1 on the first floor of K2 Crawley.
Let's give Malcolm good support for his efforts coming all the way from the Cotswolds just for us.

Further to Sunday's first part of the review of the Citation at Gatwick, my thanks to Paul Smith for pointing out that today sees the 40th anniversary of the first visit by a Citation to the airport, made by Ce500 N508CC (0008). 

Global Aviation Holdings, parent company of North American A/L & World A/W, entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today. Both carriers continue flying.
