VISITORS
British A/W A320 G-EUUI (1871) was today's first newcomer, positioning in from LHR before operating Amsterdam & Verona rotations. Next to make its debut was Gulfstream 550 N552X (5390) of National Express Co, which arrived from Paris/Le Bourget & is due stay with us until tomorrow afternoon. The third newcomer of the morning was BD700 N36LG (9225) registered to WFBN, which popped across from Northolt before flying off to New York/JFK. This afternoon we played host to THY B739 TC-JYI (40985) on the service from Istanbul/Ataturk. This carries a special scheme with "we cover more countries than any other airline" in white on a pale blue background along with famous world landmarks in dark blue on the rear fuselage & "200th AIRCRAFT" in red on the front fuselage as may be seen at: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Turkish-Airlines/Boeing-737-9F2-ER/2213678/&sid=0ab1173082b6c4ac190ecd5c6003839c
Incidentally, this was the 100th different THY aircraft that we have seen here since the carrier started its service from Istanbul 13 months ago (2xA319, 19xA320, 32xA321, 1xA332, 1xA343, 42xB738 & 3xB739)

FLEET NEWS
EasyJet A319 G-EJJB (2380) was rolled out of the paint shop at Southend yesterday with CC-AIC under tape.
Meridian Fly has had its AOC downgraded to provisional by the Italian CAA as has Air Italy. This appears to be due to concerns over the financial viability of the companies. The carriers are due to merge on 15/2.

ROUTE NEWS
None today.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Further to yesterday, all fifty or so B787s in airline service worldwide have now been grounded, either by various regulatory bodies or by the airlines themselves, until the recent battery problems & other safety issues are resolved. I gather that a Boeing spokesman has stated that there is no truth in the rumour that Airfix, Uhu, Autoglass & Duracell have been called in as consultants. Continuing on a light-hearted note, I was amused to hear reference to the "Boeing 787 Super Jumbo" on Channel 5 News this afternoon!
