B738 HA-LOH (30667), temporarily EI-EWN, was seen at Shannon today in S7 A/L scheme & will become VP-BDH for operation by Globus.THY A321 TC-JRZ (5118) made its first flight today as D-AZAW.ROUTE NEWSAir Nigeria. Adding to yesterday, it seems that the service to Gatwick will be operated by A332s, probably from Egyptair, rather than the A343s quoted by UK Airport News. The flight will operate on days 2,4,6 from 17/5 & then daily from 19/6.VGN293 eta 06.50, etd 10.50 as VGN292Delta A/L. We bade a sad farewell today to this carrier who finally pulled off the Atlanta route, having operated it since 1979. One-off visits had been made by Tristars N81028 on 17/04/78, N31029 on 06/05/78 (both later with TWA) & N724DA on 16/06/78, before N751DA commenced the Atlanta service on 17/10/79, with N752DA joining it two weeks later. The Tristar remained the mainstay of the trans-Atlantic fleet until former Pan-Am A310s began appearing in late 1991. From then on, types changed year-on-year & season-on-season. The MD-11 became a regular, though short-lived type in 1995 (a proving flight had been made by N514MD much earlier on 24/10/90). B763s had appeared sporadically from 1991, but it was 1997 before they became a regular part of the Gatwick scene, while the first B772s appeared in 1999, with B764s following in 2006, B752s in 2008 & finally former Northwest A330s from late 2009. A list of those Delta A/L aircraft that have operated to Gatwick, along with either their fate or current disposition, appears after today's movement's list. MISCELLANEOUS ITEMSAs Captain Alberto Bertorelli was wont to say on 'Allo 'Allo, what a mistake-a to make-a - "Pilot fatigue was to blame for a passenger plane going into a nose dive over the Atlantic, injuring 16 people onboard, according to Canadian authorities. The co-pilot of the Air Canada flight from Toronto to Zurich plunged the aircraft 120metres after he mistook the planet Venus for another aircraft. The report said he'd just woken from a 75-minute nap and he was disoriented.Passengers and crew who were not wearing seatbelts hit their heads on the ceiling during the 46-second dive, sustaining minor injuries.Altogether, 14 passengers and two crew were taken to hospital when the aircraft landed in Zurich.The incident has led to a call from the Canada Pilots Association for a third pilot to be mandatory on overnight flights".
