    GATWICK ROUNDUP 23-02-09

    VISITORS
Having spent most of its time operating out of Southampton since it was delivered back in October, Flybe EMB195 G-FBEN (19000213) finally made its first visit to Gatwick this morning. French A/F TBM700 131/XQ was another newcomer & became the second of these to visit this year when it arrived from Guernsey. Completing a trio of first-timers was Ryanair B738 EI-EBC (37520) operating the Girona run this afternoon.

    FLEET NEWS
BMI 320 G-MIDZ (934) has been put into storage at East Midlands for a period of 3 months, though this may be extended if nobody can be found to take it.
BMI Baby B733 G-BYZJ (24962) is also now stored at East Midlands. G-OGBE (27834) will be withdrawn in March & G-TOYE (27455) in April. Both will be returned to the lessor before May. G-OGBD (27833) had also been due to leave the fleet, but its lease has been extended.
EasyJet A320s G-TTIH (3546) & G-TTII (3575) finally left Gatwick for Luton yesterday evening as EZY8002/1 respectively. G-TTIH was so late departing that it didn't actually arrive at Luton until early this morning. New registrations are to be G-OZBT (ex G-TTIH) & G-OZBU (ex G-TTII). The former will be painted in Monarch scheme at Filton & enter service on the 9th or 10th March, while the latter now has a slot in the paint shop at Norwich, where it will acquire its new livery prior to service entry on the 8th March.
FlyLAL B735s LY-AWF (26707) & LY-AWG (26700) are due to be leased to Sky Europe shortly. Since the lessor repossessed 6 of its B738s, the airline has chiefly been using leased B733s on its services to Luton, with LZ-BOU/W from Bulgaria Air & OM-ASC of Air Slovakia being particularly regular.
    Monarch - see under easyJet.
Norwegian Air Shuttle is set to expand its B738 fleet this year. Apart from the expected LN-NOO (30289), the airline anticipates adding a further 10 B738s in 2009. These comprise four leased aircraft to be added in the first half of the year, with another four in the second half. NAS also expects to take delivery of the first 2 of 42 new B738s that is has on order from Boeing during 3Q2009.
Ryanair B738 EI-CSS (29932) has now become VQ-BCJ & should be delivered from Norwich in the near future.
Sterling B737 OY-MAE (25066) was due to leave storage at Chateauroux today bound for Dubai & an unknown operator. B738 OY-SED (28237) was registered as N813SY on the 18th & was ferried from Belgrade to Shannon today using its registration as a callsign & still in Sterling scheme.

    ROUTE NEWS
Aer Lingus is to increase its frequency on the Dublin route from four to five per day next month after British A/W abandons the route.
EasyJet. Interestingly, Hawkeye tells us that the new Gatwick flights due to start this summer are not new services for the airline as such, but are, in fact, part of a gradual move of capacity from Stansted which, by the middle of this year, will have seen a 25% drop in easyJet flights.
Norwegian Air Shuttle. The summer schedules have been listed in this month's Hawkeye &, for those of you unfortunate enough not to be members of the Gatwick Aviation Society, are reproduced below with the addition of the Tromso flights (kindly supplied by Robbie Shaw), which weren't included at the time.
    Aalborg
    NAX3521 sta 19.35 days 1 to 5 from 30/3
    Bergen
    NAX1318 sta 19.30 days 1 to 5 & 7 (continues)
    Copenhagen
    NAX3510 sta 08.15 days 1 to 5 from 30/3
    NAX3510 sta 10.10 day 6 from 4/4
    NAX3514 sta 18.55 days 1 to 5 & 7 from 29/3
    Oslo
    NAX1302 sta 08.40 days 1 to 6 from 30/3
    NAX1304 sta 13.30 days 1 to 5 from 30/3
    NAX1306 sta 18.55 days 1 to 5 from 30/3
    NAX1306 sta 19.30 day 7 from 29/3
    NAX1308 sta 09.30 day 7 from 29/3
    Stavanger
    NAX1332 sta 20.05 days 1 to 5 & 7 from 29/3 (renumbering of NAX1342)
    Tromso
    NAX1320 sta 19.45 day 2 from 31/3
    NAX1322 sta 09.10 day 6 from 4/4
If my maths are correct, that comes to 49 flights per week this summer & is an increase of 37 on the present schedules. Suitable slots are still being sought to move the Trondheim service across from Stansted. All currently show as being flown by B733s, with the exceptions of the Aalborg service & the Saturday Copenhagen flight, which are slated to be operated by B738s, though with a further 11 to be delivered this year, these may become more common.
