MISCELLANEOUS ITEMSMr Anon has very kindly supplied the following summary regarding airspace restrictions during the forthcoming Olympics:"From 23.00z on 13/7 until 23.00z on 15/8, temporary airspace restrictions will affect large amounts of low-level airspace in the South East of England. A prohibited area (designated 'UK P111') will be set up around Heathrow & the Olympics sites in East London. No VFR flights will be allowed in this area, & all IFR flights will be under positive control at all times. The airspace in UK P111 will be restricted to LHR & London City traffic, & Olympic News/Security flights only.Outside of UK P111, a further restricted area (designated 'UK R112') will be set up. This area can be thought of as being a ring, which extends to 10-20 miles outside of the M25. This ring encompasses the major airports of Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Biggin Hill & Southend, as well as many smaller aerodromes. No aircraft will be allowed into UK R112 without prior authorisation, & the airspace will be controlled by 'Atlas Control'. Atlas Control will be split into two areas 'Atlas North' & 'Atlas South'. All aircraft flying in this airspace will be required to be in two-way contact with Atlas Control at all times. The initial contact frequencies will be 123.225 (South), & 132.800 (North). The split between 'Atlas North' & 'Atlas South' will effectively be the River Thames. What does this mean? Currently it's possible to fly VFR from Fairoaks to Rochester without talking to ATC, & without getting any authorisation. Whilst UK R112 is in operation prior approval will be required, & the aircraft will be required to remain in contact with Atlas Control throughout its time in the restricted airspace. The ultimate sanction for entering Atlas airspace without authority could be a rather unpleasant meeting with an armed RAF Typhoon, which will be stationed at Northolt during the Olympic period.Further to this, all aerodromes within the Atlas area will be slot controlled, & any aircraft arriving without a slot could be fined up to £20,000. This restriction is also in place at various airports outside of the Atlas area such as Shoreham, Goodwood & Southampton."Due tomorrow:CS-DKE G550 etd 09.00 as NJE921QNAX flights - 10G/NOD, 14X/KKR, 32A/KKN, 38W/KHB, 51ZC/NOU, 5818/NIBCREDITSPaul Giblin, Mark Gould, Ian Gawtrey, Malcolm Nason, Richard Flint, Simon Shoubridge, Mr Anon, Jethro, Skyliner, ATDB, Richard Wilson & anybody else that I have forgotten.Happy spotting!
