VISITORSAn unusually poor day, with nothing new to report, not even any second visits. Tomorrow should be better.FLEET NEWS Virgin Atlantic A333 G-VINE (1231) may be restored to the UK register in the near future. It was ferried from Chicago/Rockford, IL to Gatwick today as N771RD of Ryan International. The latter company is to add A332 N772RD (343 ex HB-IQO, TC-ETP), which is currently at Zurich being prepared for service entry, to its fleet. ROUTE NEWS None today.MISCELLANEOUS ITEMSA couple of corrections to Sunday's list of Avantis, thanks to Mark Gould. G-GMCP should read F-GMCP. Delete I-EXRB - it is I-FXRB listed further down.A particularly boring day today at Gatwick, so I took a look back at what was happening here on this date from 1959 to 2011. The results are shown after today's movements. I have restricted myself to a maximum of three aircraft per day - easy for some years & tricky for others.Due tomorrow:A6-EGU B773 eta 12.30 as UAE15 (first visit)B-2089 B773 eta 05.19 as CCA851 (first visit)CS-DHM Ce550 eta 20.00 as NJE924Y, etd 09.10 on 26/7 as NJE198AD-AHLE CL604 eta 16.45, etd 13.30 on 26/7ES-ACC CRJ9 on ELL103N949GP BD700 eta 11.15V?-??? Ian, thanks for the list of highlights on this date over the last 50 odd years, brought back some memories. Personal highlight for me, though it may have been a different date - logs are long lost - was United AL DC-8 N8971U which arrived out of the blue, think around 1973/74 and then hung around Europe for a week or two. If anyone can remember it and what it was doing over here (many years before UA started serving Gatwick) , would be good to know.
N8971U first appeared at Gatwick on 6th July 1973. It made a number of further visits operating on behalf on Overseas National A/W.
Hope this helps
John
