    GATWICK ROUNDUP 25-10-09

    VISITORS
    A 35-year old Falcon 20E was today's first newcomer - Masterjet's CS-DPW (307 ex HB-VDV, I-GCAL, OE-GLL, F-GKIS, F-GYPB, F-GYMC). Arriving a little later was Jetfly Aviation's TBM850 LX-JFO (422), which was also on a first visit.
As usual, the winter schedules have brought a few small changes to callsigns, timings & destinations, but nothing too drastic. For some reason, Ryanair have at last dropped the "G" from RYR112/114/116/118 & renumbered RYR9GW back to RYR9228 & RYR1X back to RYR1184. The more interesting changes are detailed under Route News below.

    FLEET NEWS
Aer Lingus. I must admit that I haven't really been keeping an eye on the based fleet recently, but the arrival of EI-DES (2635) yesterday evening with a funny flight number prompted me to take a quick look today. Apart from the aforementioned EI-DES, we appear to have EI-DEC (2217), EI-DEK (2399) & EI-DVJ (3857) here at present.
Astraeus B752 G-STRW (24543) has its engine fixed now & it left Gatwick today bound for RAF Akrotiri as AEU743P.
Atlas Blue seems to have disappeared for good since today's flight arrived & departed with a RAM callsign.
British A/W B744 G-BNLH (24050), which I mistakenly stated yesterday as being stored at LHR, left Cardiff today as BAW9151 bound for Victorville, CA. It would appear that it flew its last revenue service on 29/9 & was ferried to Cardiff for storage two days later, though confirmation would be much appreciated. All the A319s mentioned in yesterday's roundup as being due to ferry across to LHR late evening did indeed make their expected journeys.
Hello. No longer operating to Gatwick, but readers may be interested to know that MD-90 HB-JIC (53576) was flown from Basle to Stockholm/Arlanda today for interim storage prior to being ferried to the USA.
MK A/L B742F G-MKHA (23071) may well have escaped the scrapman's axe as it was ferried from Kemble to Filton today as BGB123.

    ROUTE NEWS
Efly. Further to yesterday's roundup, my thanks to John at Exeter for demolishing my theory that the airline may take former Flybe B463 G-JEBF (E3202) as it has been sold to Ansett for scrap & is being broken up at Exeter. Perhaps I should have checked my own blog on Flight Global for the week ending 10/10 first!
Iraqi A/W. Perhaps the long-predicted service is moving a little closer to actually starting. The BAA screen this evening showed IAW623 from Baghdad via Ljubljana with an arrival time of 19.10, though it didn't actually turn up.
Norwegian Air Shuttle. With the switch to the winter schedules, the carrier has added two Sunday morning flights, taking us up to eight - the same as on weekdays.
Onur Air operated a pair of A321 flights this morning. Whether these are new for the winter, or just a couple of one-offs, remains to be seen.
Rossiya seems to have stopped its Sunday morning service

    MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
We live in an age where conspiracy theories abound & where nothing is an accident any more & no famous person ever dies of natural causes, or so some people would have us believe. The latest one to emerge is in connection with the loss of Yemenia A310 7O-ADJ (535) back on 30th June. The Yemen's official news agency is quoting an unknown website as claiming that French warships involved in military exercises near the Comoros Islands mistakenly shot down the airliner. Did I tell you that I saw Elvis & Lord Lucan spotting at the Gatwick crash gate today?
